Controlling Energy for Auto Ride Control

Bay lighting at Gabriel India Ltd, Khandsa plant

Anand Group’s Gabriel is a world-class brand, leading the Indian automotive ride control market. Gabriel’s leadership products such as Shock Absorbers, Struts, and Front Forks are found in virtually EVERY vehicle manufactured in India! But the visionary leadership at Gabriel has long established a ‘sustainability office’ to continually find ways to make their operations more environmentally sustainable. This office identified ‘lighting’ as one of the focus areas and the Khandsa plant was chosen to lead by example. Having faced other LED light failures before, the plant management carefully chose Aagami stackable modular fixtures, realising that they could stack different numbers of fixtures at different points to really customise lighting at various points on the shop floor according to the local needs. And soon, the whole factory was illuminated with stacks of 2 or 3 numbers of Aagami modules.

That is when the enormity of the change brought about by Aagami’s revolutionary approach to bay lighting was actually realised by everyone. The total factory lighting by Aagami was such an eye-opening and illuminating (no pun intended!) experience. Consider this: Before the change, the shop floor light levels ranged from 14 lux to 192 lux, giving it a very poor uniformity. The average illumination across the shop floor was 69 lux. Replacing the 250W MH lighting with a combination of 100W and 150W Aagami stacks, the factory now has 425 lux uniformly across the floor! That is more than 6X increase in illumination with more than 50% energy saving! Apart from the numbers, what makes the story complete is the tremendously high uniformity in lighting, causing no strain on the eyes and significantly improving worker safety and productivity. Gabriel’s Khandsa plant is now a showcase for the entire group to study and emulate its world-class lighting!
